Microtek Scanmaker 8700 Software Mac Update
Microtek Scanner Drivers. Yeah we all know they're not so great on OS X (an understatement, of course!). I have an X12 USL and have been unable to find an update more recent than version 7.11. In searching for an answer, I found this link on the Netherlands Microtek site, which has a link on it called Can't find my driver!. This link directs you to the Singapore Microtek Driver download page -- truly the word wide web, eh?
Anyway, there is a version 7.22 there that works with Panther, whoo hooo! You have to first manually uninstall all the other Microtek drivers, though. There is a further driver update there for the X12 USL ScanMaker as well.
It works. That's all I can say. Thought I'd share the info, as the Microtek scanner saga with OS X is not so nice, and will any Mac owners ever buy a new Microtek scanner? I don't think so..
[robg adds:This older hint contains an alternative method of installing Microtek drivers. Note that I haven't tested either hint, as I don't have a Microtek scanner.]
Update: An anonymous tipster wrote in saying 'Microtek has an open ftp (ftp://ftp.microtek.com) site that has newer versions (beta) than they post on their site. I have used these over the years to keep my 5700 running. Use at your own risk.'
